New Peeler for Tamil Garlic Pickling Industry

NDTV.com reports that a Tamil villager, M Nagarajan, has invented a new industral garlic peeler.

Nagarajan, from the village of Usillampatti in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district, invented the new peeler for the local garlic pickling industry. The new machine is easy to build and operate and saves time and energy whilst reducing wastage.

Aged Garlic Extract: Health Summary

The South African Journal of Natural Medicine has published a summary of the possible health benefits of aged garlic extract (AGE). The article is by Dr Carmia Borek, a professor from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Borek summarises the reputed health benefits of AGE from over 50 published works and gives detailed references.

AGE does not contain the chemical allicin and so does not have the side effect of causing garlic breath.

Recognition For Really Garlicky Farmers

Glen and Gilli Allingham of the Scottish Really Garlicky Company were the runners up for the "Farming Today Award" at the recent Radio 4 Food and Farming Awards 2005.

Glen says on the company's website:
"It was an honour to be nominated by our customers and I believe it was a sign to us as a company that we are doing something to contribute to a better quality of food on 'the UK menu' "
